Sometimes you come across clever, funny, cringe-worthy things on the Internet and you just want to share them.
Have you seen Dear Photograph? How do people even think of this stuff? You take an old picture and return to the place where the picture was taken. Position the old picture to fit in with the scenery and take a new picture. Add a poignant caption, and voila - Internet gold! I could look at this site for hours. Some of the pictures have an almost haunting quality and the stories they tell can be moving. If you are sappy or interested in nostalgia, you have to check out Dear Photograph.
Regretsy is described as Where DIY Meets WTF. It makes fun of random craft projects posted on the popular website Etsy.
Kate Middleton For the Win was cracking me up leading up to the Royal Wedding. It still makes me laugh, but I wish they would update it!

Miscellaneous Monday Musings
Kiva is a worldwide, non-profit organization that makes connections between people through micro-lending to mitigate impoverishment. Using the internet and a network of micro-finance groups, Kiva allows individuals to lend as little as $25 to someone across the world, giving them independence and hope to better their life and the lives of their families.
I just extended my fifth loan. There are agricultural loans, business loans, and housing loans. I choose to loan money to women, and through Kiva, I have loaned money to women in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nicaragua, Philippines, and Ecuador. It seems awesome to empower women trying to improve their lives in developing countries. Another neat aspect of Kiva is the email updates that are sent informing you of how your borrower is using the loan. Once the loan is repaid, it is easy to just turn around and lend it to someone else!

Needless to say, this movie is gritty. Many of the supporting character actors are haggard and believable as drug addicted, rural people living at the poverty line. Considering the bad rap this state typically receives, it was almost a relief to watch a movie about meth addiction that wasn't set in Oklahoma.
Jennifer Lawrence gives a great performance as a young woman determined to provide for her family, but the storyline of Winter's Bone seemed anticlimactic to me. Have you seen it? What do you think?

Miscellaneous Monday Musings
Not going to lie, we are on the cutting edge of pop culture and entertainment media over here. We know what's going to be cool before you've ever even heard of it. Don't feel bad, that's just how we roll.
OR NOT.
We are lame.
We only recently watched two of last year's most critically acclaimed films - The King's Speech and Black Swan. I am sure I don't have to tell you they are very different films.
I enjoyed them both, but The King's Speech was my favorite and deserving of its Oscar win for Best Picture. The acting was wonderful, and I felt like Geoffrey Rush stole the show as the quirky, witty speech tutor to Colin Firth's stuttering King. The historical aspects of the story were also interesting and provided an additional dimension to this remarkable story.
On the other hand, Black Swan was a psychological thriller and Natalie Portman's exceptional portrayal of a ballerina spiraling out of control earned her the Oscar for Best Actress. The film was intriguing and left me riveted as the story unfolded. The director's unique way of filming includes use of close-ups and follows the characters from behind and I find this adds heightened drama to the plot. I was somewhat disappointed by the ending of the film as I felt it just stopped.
What did you think of these films?

Can anyone tell me if the proper way to say Realtor is Real-A-Tor or Real-Tor? It really annoys me because it seems like it should be pronounced the way it is spelled: "Real-Tor" but I hear people say it "Real-A-Tor" all the time.

In exciting personal news, I have a new niece. Miss Harper was born today and mother and baby and daddy and big brother are all fine! Sending much love to Virginia. Wish we were there!

Miscellaneous Monday Musings
June has been a weird weather month so far. We have had record-breaking heat, severe storms, lots of wind, and last week's unexpected hail storm.
Today, the weather anchors have been salivating, warning that conditions were ripe for severe storms and urging us all to be "weather aware."
So far, we have had some rain and we even had a few minutes of small, pea-sized hail. I can't remember the last time it has hailed twice in less than one week! The bright side is that the storms are supposed to cool temperatures down for the rest of the week.
Can you tell I am a "glass half full" kind of girl?

Summer television is pretty much a wasteland, but I have been able to find some entertainment anyway.
ABC's The Bachelorette is usually guaranteed to be somewhat of a train wreck between the tears, the testosterone, and the "most dramatic" rose ceremony. This season is especially annoying with Ashley the dentist as one of the most bland Bachelorette's in recent memory.
USA's White Collar is back with a new season and it offers clever characters catching the bad guys in New York City. The show is a fun concept with the lead character being a (reformed?) con man who must help the FBI catch white collar criminals. Plus, the eye candy of Matt Bomer is an additional perk!
Finally, I am looking forward to Rookie Blue starting up again on ABC this week. It premiered last summer and was the surprise hit of the season. It is filmed in Canada and features rookie cops learning the ropes from seasoned partners. It is fun, flirty, and light - the perfect summer show!

Miscellaneous Monday Musings
Well, I am happy to report we are surviving just fine over here at the cable-free house. So far we are very happy with our decision to cut cable, and we haven't even resorted to organizing our bathroom cabinets or trimming the lawn with scissors!

Did you have an American Girl doll growing up? These got popular sometime during my elementary school years. I came across this blog post that explains What Your American Girl Doll Says About the Rest of Your Life.
I never read the American Girl books - I was more of a Babysitter's Club fan - but I secretly wanted an American Girl doll! I don't think I ever asked for one because I knew it would be a financial hardship for my parents to buy me one.
Anyway, I thought it was funny that the blog post described people who had no American Girl doll as follows:
You grew up to be financially independent, level-headed, unspoiled, and still just a little bit resentful whenever you walk by American Girl Place.
Hmmm, I guess that sort of sounds like me.

Miscellaneous Monday Musings
One positive to warmer weather is the increased availability of fresh fruits and veggies. After spying this recipe for Lemon Blueberry pancakes, I added lemons and blueberries to my weekly grocery list as I knew the pancakes would make for a great Sunday brunch.
I was not disappointed. These pancakes are phenomenal! Personally, I felt the lemon juice and lemon peel were the showcase flavor of the pancakes. They completely overshadowed the blueberries. If you make these, don't even bother putting syrup on the pancakes because it will just inhibit the glorious lemon flavors. To me, these pancakes just taste like summer - make them sometime soon!
I had leftover blueberries I didn't want to go to waste, so I decided the make a recipe I bookmarked a few weeks ago from Nicole over at Prevention RD for Low Fat Whole Wheat Blueberry Muffins. I love Prevention RD because Nicole is a registered dietitian and she posts unique recipes that include a breakdown of the nutrition information.
The pictures I took with my phone obviously don't do these muffins any favors, but don't let that deter you from making them. I followed the recipe fairly close, but I added a too ripe banana I had lying around and a 1/4 cup of walnuts. These muffins re-heat great for a breakfast on the run and they are a nice guilt-free option for anyone who enjoys carbs.

Miscellaneous Monday Musings
It's not even mid-May and I am already complaining about the hot weather. It's going to be a long summer. I wish I could go live somewhere with reasonable weather for the summer and come back to Oklahoma in September ready for the fall and cooler weather and college football season.
Maybe somewhere like Maine or Michigan or Minnesota or Montana.
Basically any of the M states.
Wait. Not Missouri and definitely not Mississippi. But any of the other M states would be acceptable.
Aside from the heat, I had a lovely weekend celebrating the mothers in my life. I am lucky to have both a wonderful mother and mother-in-law. Sometimes I shudder hearing the horror stories told by my friends and co-workers about their monsters-in-law. I certainly lucked out in that department.
On a different note, the hubs and I have discussed taking a road trip over the long Memorial Day weekend at the end of the month. We don't have any firm plans yet, but Austin has been thrown out as a potential destination.
What do you think? Is Austin a good choice or should we check out somewhere else? If we do hit up Austin, any suggestions on what to do and where to stay or eat?

Miscellaneous Monday Musings
We had an unseasonably cold day today considering it is the first week of May. I didn't mind too much since it gave me an excuse to wear my favorite suit to work. It is a purple and black houndstooth suit jacket which I can wear with black suit pants or a silky skirt depending on my mood and the weather. It was nice to get one last wear out of it this year. See you next winter, favorite suit!
I have something exciting to share with you all, I bought my first pair of Toms shoes this past weekend! I know, I know, I am late to the game. My sister has been buying these shoes for years, but I have resisted joining the bandwagon even though it is for a good cause as I never thought their shoes meshed with my unique fashion taste. However, I am happy to say I am a Toms convert thanks to these beauties:
I first fell in love with them awhile back, but I couldn't buy them as I was on a spending freeze for Lent. I think they just LOOK like summer, and I wore them to the Festival of the Arts held in downtown OKC on Saturday and I think they are going to be my go-to shoe this summer. I can't wait!!
I would be remiss without giving a shout-out to my favorite newlyweds, Wills and Kate, *ahem* the Duchess and Duke of Cambridge.
They looked genuinely blissful on their highly anticipated and publicized wedding day and I wish them a long and loving marriage. I hope the media and the public will leave them alone to start their married life together in peace and quiet. This might actually happen, considering there was huge breaking news last night taking the world's spotlight off of their nuptials. The 24-hour news stations are off chasing the next big ratings bonanza.
Between these two major news stories, I am reminded of the amazing effects social media has on our daily lives, but I will save my thoughts for a post later this week.

Miscellaneous Monday Musings
Mondays are never my favorite day of the week, but today was especially bad since it was coming off a nice long three-day holiday weekend.
Sigh.
Enjoyed a nice Easter with the family. Even the Easter Bunny stopped by to say hello or hide her head in shame. You decide:
I bought some new nail polish tonight - Buy me a Cameo from Essie:
I think I am going to like it. It has a nice pearly, brownish-pink, neutral color to it that seems to compliment my poor pale skin.
I'll wrap this up by saying that I saw the Adjustment Bureau over the weekend. I liked the movie, it was very thought-provoking and there was some intense chemistry between Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. I swear, Matt Damon will be hot even when he is super-old and gumming his food in the nursing home. Am I right?

I went to the gym after work today to work off that deee-licious piece of leftover carrot cake I indulged in following lunch. It was totally worth it. If you like carrot cake, check out yesterday's post because that is a seriously good recipe and the icing alone is To. Die. For. I died. It was that good.
I think carrot cake would be on my "last meal" menu. You know, if I'm ever on death row, and I get to pick a last meal. That carrot cake would be on the menu. Just keep that in mind.

Miscellaneous Monday Musings
This is going to be a great week. I love Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday for many reasons - singing Easter hymns, checking out the cute spring fashions, baking some delicious goodies and spending time with my family! Another perk - it's a short week/three day weekend for me and my husband since our offices will both be closed for Good Friday.
We saw True Grit at the cheap movies this past weekend. It was a good movie and nicely cast. The crowd could have been better. I almost had to beat down the woman sitting behind us. Inexplicably, in the middle of the movie she decided to start filing her nails. Filing. Her. Fingernails. In a dark movie theater. I could not believe it. I kept thinking she would stop, but no! Finally, I turned around and said, "Could you please stop that?" I saw her husband nudging her leg and she leaned over to whisper to him, "What did she say?" Apparently he relayed the message because she quit and I was able to resume watching the movie in peace. Sheesh!
Also, I am just now getting around to posting a picture from the Red Bud Classic 5K I ran in last Sunday. Last year was the first time I had ever run in the Red Bud Classic and it was my first 5K run. The weather ended up being very nice as the Oklahoma wind cooperated by gusting less than 20 mph. This is me with my running buddy co-worker. Warning, you may want to turn down the brightness level on your computer. I am rocking some seriously WHITE legs.
I can't believe I am going to share this with you, but today I think I accidentally ate some moldy cheese! The horror! The humanity! Here's a little secret about me, I have a bad habit of sneaking bites of cheese while I am cooking dinner. Tonight, I had a bag of shredded Italian cheese blend out to garnish our pasta. As I waited for the pasta to boil I opened the bag and took a pinch of shredded cheese out and popped it in my mouth. Hmm, I thought. That tasted a bit strange. But I was undeterred. I stuck my fingers in the bag for another pinch and noticed the peculiar consistency of the shredded cheese - sort of clumpy. I looked into the bag and realized there were some moldy pieces of cheese in the bag. EEEEEK! I threw the bag away. I immediately confessed my cheese sins to my husband. He may or may not ever kiss me again. Hopefully, I won't face damaging repercussions from my cheese sins.
But don't worry, I still LOVE cheese!
